Some great advice here. I run studded winter tires on my f150 and have my wife’s Forester and daughter’s Focus on Firestone Winterforce, excellent tire. When I had my Wrangler, I ran Duratracs year round. I think they are good tires but they don’t compare to dedicated winter tires, in my opinion.
Not only do winter tires steer and brake much, much better, I have found that they just track better and smoother in a straight line. Especially noticeable when there are snow “ruts” from traffic, they’re much less inclined to follow the ruts. Same holds true for slush. Most importantly, especially after the arctic cold most all of us experienced in the beginning of this year, the tires are still pliable in sub-zero temps. Here in Maine, we always, ALWAYS run dedicated winter tires on their own wheels in this family!
