Back to a 6.0... again
I just picked up an 07' F350 6.0l with 165k via the auction. Took it to Mad Matt's Diesel for ARB studs, upgraded oil cooler, (egr was already deleted), coolant filter, blue spring etc, etc, etc.
A bit of history - this is my 3rd 6.0; the first two I purchased and sold in 09' before it became clear how to address the weaknesses of these diesels.
My second full-time job is my ranch in OK so having a solid ranch truck is important. A 24' stock trailer full of cattle tends to require something a bit more stout that a Z71. My 5.9 Dodge pulled it great but 2 front-ends and tranny work + 250k on the clock made me look for something else.
People are really loathe to sell their 06' and 07' Duramaxs and 5.9 Cummins but the Ford 6.0s seem plentiful. I've read a ton (mostly from you folks) on how to address the 6.0 issues, just keep the dang oil changed, flush/filter the coolant, don't tune it and work it hard. As mentioned, I went ahead and did some upgrades so we'll see.
My goal is that I get 233k out of this truck (which will put the truck at 400k)... I may have to address other items - FICM, injectors but hope not.
Anyway wanted to say hello and how much I appreciate all the help you folks give others. Hope to be able to contribute at some time in the future.
Side note: I've been reading the "what have you done to your 6.0l today" thread. It appears that a ton of you seem to have a lot of spare time on your hands... if so there is plenty of fence to build, wild hogs to shoot, pens to paint if you guys get bored... :-)
I like your frankness about "what works" and at "what value"... Some of those pre emission Dmaxes and Cummins are nuts from a -- what you get for your dollar, standpoint....
Too bad those years Dmaxes and their Allisons didn't ever get along, and well we know what trans the (who owned them then?!) Dodge boys had to work with...
I hate to say this, but I wouldn't put out of the equation a really good gas motor and a really good transmission....
