My 6.0 has a starting problem that comes and goes, starts normally for weeks and months on end and one day out of the blue it won't start, acts like it's not getting fuel, cranks and cranks, won't start, wait a few minutes, try again, same thing, over and over, and then out of the blue it starts like there's nothing wrong, then for weeks, no problem, but it still happens !! I have upgraded the film power supply ,getting 54 volts, the dealer upgraded the ficm to the new factory upgraded part, a few years ago, the truck has upgrades too many to list, bulletproof diesel ,ipr arp, sct,and more, this problem never shows up on my diesel guys diagnostic tests , he's an ex Ford tech who has opened his own shop, he continues to attend all the factory training to stay up to date, I've been wrenching on cars for over 35 years and I've never paid anyone else to work on my stuff, but I pay my diesel guy to work on my 6.0 ( I trust him ) and that doesn't come easy, however this problem has me stumped, any help would be appreciated
What is your FICM voltage when it won't start? It may be your FICM power relay.

thanks ed ,my truck started normally all day today, but I will check the voltage on my scan gauge II (love it ) next time it doesn't start, normally voltage always shows 54.5 volts
Watch the cam/crank sync on the gauge when this happens. See if it also is commanding fuel, if not you have a sensor that may be loose or grounded by a wire and the motor shake clears it until next time.
I have a temp sensor that starts to read low by 20°, but a good bump, it clears or wiggle the connector.
