I have an 86 f150 302 5.0 V8 2WD automatic. The other day I was driving down the interstate and my truck started to feel like I was running out of gas (I had at least a quarter of a tank for sure) and I pressed harder on the accelerator and got a "jump" of acceleration then let off the gas pedal and when I pressed the pedal in again to just drive normally I had zero acceleration at all and actually decelerating pretty quickly. I then pulled over (truck is still running) and turned the truck off, I waited a minute or two and tried to start it again but it wouldn't start. When I turned the ignition it tried to start but never actually got there. VDOT came behind and I tried again but nothing, they said it sounded like all my spark plugs were firing but no clue as to why it wouldn't start. The starter has been replaced within the year and also figured that if my starter was bad that it wouldn't make the attempt to start. This is my only vehicle so please help!!

If it cranks then starter should be good.
Not sure how VDOT can listen to it cranking and tell you that the spark plugs are firing.
I would start with simple stuff first. The Trinity!
Fuel, Fire, Compression
Check to make sure you are getting fuel. Clogged fuel filter might cause this. Is pump working?
After that check that you are actually getting spark and that timing is correct.
If all that checks out make sure you are getting good compression. Parts store should sell a compression tester.
Now I'm not familiar with your truck so maybe someone who is can chime in on specifics or other thoughts.
EFI equipped? Test your fuel pressure. Sounds like a failing pump. Keep in mind there are two fuel pumps. The high pressure pump on the frame rail is pretty reliable. Usually the lift pump ion the tank fails.
+1 on the control module, even if it's getting spark the control module could still be bad and not sending out the signal for the injectors to fire, seen this happen many times over the years. Also could be a bad ground to the ecm these early EEC-IV have a dedicated ground wire directly from the battery to the ecm that is prone to break or come loose then the ecm ceases to operate
