I have driven so many "clangers" in my life that I am usually pretty good at diagnoses of problems, just can't do the fixes myself. I'm not shy about tweeking my old camaro (carberated, no smog anything, no computer), but these modern things... YEEK! And it was the chevy dealer that never gave me this kind of grief when the siverado blew the trany at 20k miles. Imediatly put me in a rental car, brought in a whole new trany from D. without a single buck or kick. I had to pitch a fit to get a ride home from ford. When you are as rural as here, that is a big thing.
About the warranty thing. If I bought a truck and the engine threw a rod in the first 12,000 miles, then the warranty would be used. I expect that regular maintenance should be kept up, and that certain items should not be applied to the warranty, I have seen these dealers, they are filled with whiny customers and have difficulty putting priority to real problems.
So, let me get this straight, if you bought a truck 14 months ago and were cruising down the freeway, and the family of 4 in front of you slammed on their brakes but when you went to hit yours, you suddenly found that you had none, You wouldn't complain to the dealer and tell them "they're supposed to work, it's a new truck"? I think you would. And I'll bet you would expect them to come up with an answer as to why they failed too. I know I would. The price that is being paid for new vehicles now, I expect some accountability!
ssatt...A word of caution. If you decide to do the master yourself, do not "pump" the pedal all the way to the floor. I have heard nasty things about doing that. I haven't figured out why yet but, it ruins the master cylinder.
In a crash the defective part would be easily identified. This is not something that gives out in stages, I don't think its your master cylinder. More like your proportioning valve.
If your insurance or authorities investigate the crash, they can get information from the event recorder in the vehicle. I think(guess) Ford started using them on the F-series Super Duty in 2000 and on the regular F-series 1998.
I read about a person driving and ran over someone. Was an accident until the DA got the vehicle recorder record from the insurance and found the person was going over 100 MPH before the impact. Changed the accident to Manslaughter and more. You can do a search of articles on MSN and find several, including the legislation and opposition on the subject.
The dealership thought it was the ABS prop. valve and ordered the part. waited a week for it to come, left the truck, then they got shut down by the PTB in D. Since they could not "proove" that part bad they were directed not to do the work. If even my "real" mechanic can't point a finger at a part, It will be just throwing parts at it.
Sorry for not being more specific, I never meant it was a Ford Truck. It could have been a Honda, the vehicle was not reveled.
My Explorer hits 120 MPH (no mods) although it does not feel it should be going that fast with stock suspension.
I have a 1999 gas F250(no mods) it stops at 110 MPH.
My 2002 F350 PSD did stop at 94 MPH, but after the superchip MT is goes past 100 MPH mark easily.
How fast will a Lightning go?
Or a SVT Ranger?
I think you were probably just referring to un-modified Ford diesel trucks?
Stepman..
Yep, sorry to say, I'm in Mesa, City of the "Blue Death Squad"...
I bought a toy hauler last week and hit every lot on Main St., except Earnhart.... I guess he must have a bunch of satisfied customers to be able to get that big, but I've not heard from any ...SSATT44 sounds like a neat gal......I hope she soon gets it fixed and we all find out the cause.... My F-100 does the exact same thing... I just haven't got around to replacing the origanal master cylander ... One thing nice about old trucks, there's not a lot of garbage that can go wrong...
Hey Jerrybo66, you ought to come up to Mayer. Hayley's grill is hosting the last car cruise of the season 12-5 this pm. Got to go wash my Z aka "thunder beast" for the show. Y'all ought to "come up an see me sometime"
