I need to pick y'all's brains. About a month ago, I started to pull into traffic and had to abort. The brake pedal went streight to the floor and just stopped the truck. I have an F350 psd 2002. Took it to the dealer who, after 3 weeks of driving, testing, clear up to a "district engineer" can't duplicate the prob. and returned the truck with "no found, no fix" Got it back thursday... brake failed fri, sat. and sunday. Back in today and shoved it up dealers nose again. At 15k it ate a torque converer ( cause unknown). At 16k the brakes go. I'm scared to drive the @#$% thing. The dealer is willing to do the work, but they can't figure out what's wrong.
Saw this happen before where you could hit the brakes 10 times w/out a problem but the next time pedal to floor. Then after that pedal fine for 5,20,30 stops and pedal to floor again. Scary feeling boy! Turned out to be bad master cylinder.
It happens when it's been sitting for an hour or so. the brakes were touched several simes getting out of the parking lot. Only at "panic" mode soon after does it mush out
Master Clinder sounds like it could def be the problem. I know they're a bit weird SDs. Don't they have like a gas charged assist b/c of the PSD's low vacuum.
ssatt44, why don't you take the service manager or someone at your ford dealership for a ride with you driving. Sounds like you have better luck replacating the problem. But I know how it is, when you bring something in for service, it starts working, murphy's law I guess
I tried taking a service guy for a "ride". Got it to sort of do it. Good pedal pressure, the fade down. Det. seems to be calling the shots. NOW they have my in a used truck that is my twin to see if I can repeat the prob. After a day I told them that the '02 with 48k, brakes like my truck USED to. My truck only has 16k. Looks like we will be portaging down the 100 mile to Phoenix and another, bigger dealer. It IS acting more and more like a master cyl.
I would suggest you try Sanderson if your humping it to PHX, I've used the others and found them to be the best without trying to 'upsell' you on service. Besides, this should be a warranty issue, the trick will be to diagnose the problem before the inevitable, a little unerving on a 100 mile drive for sure.
The brake pedal went streight to the floor and just stopped the truck.
Since it is so intermittent, it would seem to be M/C or fluid related. You don't notice any fluid on the outside of the M/C or a low level in the reservoir do you? I'd suspect a bad seal or an air bubble - going to the floor indicates loss of fluid pressure - loss of vacuum would make the pedal stiffer'n $%^&, right?
Got me thinking about panic stops after I posted this - what about the ABS? Did it enagage and pull in at all? Does it pull to one side or the other. Curious to know what the ABS was doing.

No leaks, no codes, no nothin! The first glitch, I thought I'd hit the clutch! Now it stops normal and then fades down. Only on panic stops after a long stop (1+hr). Galpin has been ripping their hair out for 3 weeks. They put 200 miles on it and could not duplicate. Without a "proven bad part" they are hog tied by the PTB. Sanderson is where they are taking me and the truck next week. They will be relieved to have me out of their hair!
I suggest you don't take to any dealer in Mesa.... The service manager at one, when he didn't know what was causing my problem, told me I should of bought a Dodge....
HUMPH...I've been telling them I'm sorry I ever sold the Silverado! When asked if I need a rental car, I pointed out I just needed a ride home. My 30 year old chevy is just FINE First the torque converter, now this. I'm getting tired of "found on road dead" jokes
