My old F-1 has 100 hp and I use em all! Have had it up to about 90......took a while to get there. About as fast as I want to go with that old truck....
Mike - thanks for the link it's good to see that speed has been achieved
don't worry I wasn't on the open road, I am indeed from the UK
I have around 340 but going up to 400 in the next month or so, I have all wheel drive so grip is not a problem, I also have a very stiff chassis with full integral roll cage running through the chassis and cab, fat anti roll bars big disc brakes etc etc.
the hood is reverse flip so no worries there, I'm planning on taking it on a track day event at some point next year
Actually John I would guess you have in the 225HP range on your pickup . The practice of using the old HP rating parameters is the general rule in aftermarket , muscle car , hot rod etc . As your 80ish 351 would be factory rated with the new procedure leaving it 75 or so HP shy .
Olethalb, I don't think you have anything to worry about with the windshield. My main concern was the hood latch. These trucks will run a lot faster than most people think with the right HP, Torque, and gearing. My 48 f1 has been lowered 2 with drop spindles, has a 500 HP balanced and blueprinted 347 stroker, Beefed up G-Force Tremic T5 transmission with 0.8 overdrive, Ford 9 rear with 4.11 limited slip, and 255 45 R18 tires, and has seen in excess of 140 mph and still pulling strong.

Post some photos when you get chance. I think my current 51 project is along the same lines as yours.
The comments on power levels made me smile. Expecting a leaf spring rear end suspended truck with all season tires to get good traction is asking a lot. A link rear suspension with good shocks and decent tires can be tuned to hook up surprisingly well with relatively high power levels.
I took the "BEAST" to the Haggerty show at the Indy track last year. After the show we got to go out and drive the track. Porsches, Vetts, Mustangs, Ferrari's, other sports cars and me. A lead car and a trail car kept us all in line. The 3rd lap they were doing 75-80 I never lifted and kept it at 70 all the way around the track. the turbo porsche in front of me slowed just after the 4th turn on the 4th lap and let the other cars get way ahead of him. I was coming around at 70 and turned to go inside of him. I was going to pass a turbo porsche with my 38 -90 hp Studebaker! He stuck his hand out the window , waved, floored it and was gone ! We broke up laughing as did the guys in the trail car. I started last and finished last all with 90 HP. That is plenty for the beast.
Nice to see you still active olethalb was wondering about your build thread and if you were still around
thanks bud, yea still have it, not much building gone on, welded out the front bumper holes and cut bigger ducts is about all that has changed on the exterior
I plan to recess the front plate and make some bonnet vents, I've mainly been tinkering with the engine and making new dash to incorporate more roll cage, few more bars to be added too. I've been using it every day for the past year and still enjoy using it
