Bouncy speedo. Speedo checks out fine with a drill. Cable seems intact, drove it around the block with the dash cluster removed, cable inner spins, sometimes doesn't. Pulled the cable out of the transfer case...........
The gear itself is concaved on the end of the cable. Put my finger in the hole, the inner gear feels concave as well........IS THIS NORMAL, or are they worn out?
Haven't had any issues with my truck before but I did experience something similar with a VW Beetle once. Bought some graphite from the parts store to lube the gears inside the speedo and that fixed it right up. Seems that I remember when it would stop turning there was a noise that it would make and it would catch again and that's what was causing the bouncing.
Is it a 4x4 with a nylon gear in the transfer case? Not normal, all the teeth should be the same height. If you are looking for one, they are super hard to find, i think there is only one or two guys that have them online.
I think you want the grey colored DRIVE gear, 6 tooth, # D8TZ-17285-A and the wine colored DRIVEN gear, 16 teeth, C0DD-17271-A......those are stock numbers, I believe.
