my 1975 speedometer has quit working on me. I have pulled apart from the dash and the tranfer case and found that the cable and the speedometer itself works fine.
So I checked the gear and found it was a little spun, so I got a new gear for it the same exact one. but my speedometer still does not work. as far as I can see is there is on large gear inside the tranfer case, but it does not look like the splins line up in the gears. they're crossed. am I missing another gear in their. on the side or above where the speedometer cable gear goes in. or is it something else?
Your gear on the trans shaft is probably worn out also and it is not touching your new cable gear. They are sill available but can be a pain to change. I just helped a friend put a new one in a 70 with a 4 speed and the snapring was a real pain to get back on the shaft. Good luck Greg NE
[font color=red size=2]When the spedo needle is bouncy or wobbly, it usually means the cable needs lubricated. Pull the center of the cable out and lube it. There is a lube made specifically for spedo cables, but I've always used tranny fluid with success.
Just a thought.

My speedo seems to only start working at about 45 miles per hour. It doesn't work every time when I get up to 45 but most of the time it will work. If I slow down below 45 after it has started working it still works fine until I come to a complete stop. Is this a sign of something?
use graphite powder lube at the point where it contacts the meter at the dash, ...I would think that oil or grease would gum up and cause a hesitant reading, IE jumping in at 45 mph or wobbling
It looks like they used this stuff on mine at the factory
