Gonna start another thread. The 79's speedometer hasn't worked since we bought it this last december. The natural/white plastic gear look's good. Teeth are slightly worn, but not concaved. Spinning the cable with a cordless drill, and the speedo works. So what is in the transfer case that is killing the speedo?

Put it up on jacks and make sure the speedo gear inside is turning. Then if you have a spare, put a drive cable into it and observe if it is spinning. If it is, hold on to it and see if it will still spin. Sometimes the gear strips out internally, and won't drive the cable.
Speedo Not Working It Has Cc The Cables Are Good The Gear In The Tranfer Case Is Good The Cluster Is Good Could It Be The Part That The Two Cables Hook To I Can Not Turn It At All Please Help Thanks 79 Shortbox
If you have cruise control, that part should turn internally. If not, it could be the source of the trouble, but if it is bound, then the cable driving it likely is bad as well.
