Can't imagine what this could be and how the hell it got into your fuel tank. It had to have come from the fuel - most pumps have filters. There's nothing in our tanks - this is not a '17 is it? I think the fuel pump on the 17s is in the tank - I was going to say maybe crappy welding job when they assembled the tank - but the tank is plastic - unless you're fuel pump is feeding on itself - no odd noises from the fuel pump? Now that I think about it - it could be the fuel pump falling apart. I agree with the general consensus and your plan - go 3,000 miles and check again - do let us know. Fortunately the fuel pumps aren't that expensive and relatively easy to change - unfortunately Ford won't replace it under warranty until it fails which leaves you dead on the road.

I think you may have picked some crud up from the fuel station. When the pumps come apart, it is very fine metal flakes. Looks like glitter in the bottom of the fuel bowl. If you really want to know, remove the the FRP sensor or PCV solenoid on the driver's side fuel rail and catch the fuel coming out of it. If there are metal flakes, prepare for system replacement.
