I have a 1999 Ford F-150 with an after market stereo, one of my friends was messing with it and accidentally knocked the stereo off while the key was on, putting the truck into theft mode, I was wonder what ways there are to fix this. I have tons of oarts trucks to get parts from. I searched online to see what I could do but couldn't find a thing. I was wondering if there is a computer or something that I can change to fix the problem or if there is a way to fix it. Any and all help is appreciated!
I am not sure I understand the problem. He turned the aftermarket stereo off by the switch on the stereo, and the factory theft system on the truck activated? Did it alarm or did you just cycle the keyswitch?
on the after market stereo there is a digital screen with all the buttons that controls the stereo, and on the bottom of the stereo there's an eject button that ejects the screen part and leaves the CD player and stuff, but the part that comes off plugs into the CD player, the key was in the on position and then the piece fell off and then all the lights went off and it said theft mode blinking on the dash.
The arrow points to the digital screen that can come out, the buttons on either side come out too, it just clips on, when it fell off it put the truck in theft mode
You should have gotten a security code with the aftermarket head unit. Follow the instructions that came with it to enter the security code to unlock the head unit.
The head unit was installed before I purchased the truck, I don't have a code, if I change the head unit to a stock one will it fix it?
Okay, you're giving very confusing information. there's no such thing that is commonly called "theft mode".
Your photo is of the THEFT light in the cluster which has absolutely nothing to do with the stereo. I recommend that, before proceeding, you read the section in your owner's manual that describes how the THEFT light is supposed to behave during normal operation and how it will operate if there is an issue. Once you understand that and how those operations are commonly described, drop back on and describe SPECIFICALLY what you are observing using the terminology that is common to your owner's manual.
I'm not too sure how messing with a radio could cause the dash theft light to go on, unless the radio is tied into a circuit related to the PATS and a fuse blew.
