I don't need to know how to measure the shocks, I know what shocks are on the back....the measurements are on the links. I am just asking if the shocks on the rear should have the same measurements as the shocks on the front, or are the travels different? Thanks.
Front will be different, there's usually much less suspension travel up front. You either need to find a PN, or do some measuring. Have you hit the front shocks with a hand wire brush? The toothbrush sized ones work good If you know about where the numbers might be stamped. If you had an idea of how much lift you had, or if its a kit, you could look up stock shock dimensions and travel and figure out something close enough.

Now don't get this wrong but how do you know the shocks on it now are correct?
If you don't measure how will you realize correct shock travel?
The reason I am guessing they are the right shocks is because it appears to be a kit.
OK finally got around to trying to find the number on the front shocks. They are so rusty it is not going to happen. I know they are Doetsch shocks but when I measure them I cannot find a shock on their page that matches up. I am thinking I may be making a mistake. The shocks have a bump stop on them. Fully collapsed they measure 15" from the middle of the eyelets. Expanded is 21.5". Do they include the bump stop in their measurement? Without the bump stop the shock would collapse to 13". They have a shock that meets this. They do not have one that meets a 15" collapsed and a 21.5" expanded.
Thanks for answering my questions. I am going to pull the back shocks today and measure them to be sure. The truck is out of commission for a bit due to replacing the axle seals up front. I ordered a couple of seals a while back when I noticed gear oil all over both front tires. Of course after I got it all apart I realized I bought the wrong seals. Also found a bad ball joint. What fun . Here it is in all its misery. Due to no one in town having the correct seal my garage door has been up for days.
I have never had the truck in the mud, owned it since Christmas and here is what I saw when I popped the cover.....yum.
Yeah it was pretty nasty. A bunch of Brake Kleen after dropping the carrier and cleaning out the tubes and it was good to go. Seals came from Bronco Graveyard in 2 days....yee haw. They are in and the carrier and cover are back on. Waiting on my ball joints to show up from Amazon. Supposed to be here today. I sure hope so. Gonna rain tomorrow.
OK, I ordered the shocks I thought were correct and guess what........they were. Something finally worked out. The collapsed size did not include the bump stop. The shocks are the exact replacements for what I had.
Are both ends on your truck stem mount or eye mount on the upper? My '77 has stem mount shocks, and I have a set of 4 matching Doetch shocks I'm not using....very few miles on them. Looks like your fronts are eye mount, but how about the rears?
