My friend has a 1993 F-150 and we are trying to figure out what rear end he has. My 1965 has a tag on it that says 4.10...pretty easy. The tag on his has the following;
S844B
55883E07
Thanks ahead of time for helping to decipher this.
Do you know if it's the original rear end? If so, what's the door jam axle code. I might have more of a chance of figurin that out than those crazy series' of numbers they put on em.
If you go look at the tag again there is probably a 3 in the bottom left corner maybe under the bolt that holds the tag on which would make it a 3.55 ratio 8.8 inch differential.
Door jamb code is listed in the owners manual in the towing section with the associated ratio. Also it never fails to count driveshaft turns while pushing truck one rear tire revolution on flat concrete. I believe the axel tag will have an "L" between the whole number and the fraction for locking rear end and some other letter for an open rear end. Based on that looks like could be 3.07, but I my F150 has a 3.08.
Check the "how can tell if m tuck has a limited slip? " thread... good stuff there, lots of ways to tell, even if you cant read the tag, or if the tag is missing.
