I wish there was a way to get all of you out of harms way. Our prayers are with you all and your families. Hopefully your homes, possessions, trucks and other vehicles don't get damaged or destroyed. The best advice I heard out of Harvey and may have been mentioned here was to take a picture of or scan important papers. Birth certificates, marriage license, insurance papers, bank info, anything you may need and email them to yourself. Hopefully no one will need that type of backup but good to have.
Please let us know how things go when you can.

Sorry to bring you bad news. However she goes, stress to her the importance of keeping an eye on the fuel supply. Fuel lines are long over here on the west coast and some stations are out.
I've lived here a long time too and understand about getting out of Florida during these times. I routed US1 to SR44 (@New Smyrna Beach) to US17 (@Deland) north to SR100 (Palatka) to US41 (Lake City) then up to the border and I75. Hopefully that will work. She's only going to Perry, GA on the first leg, normally about a 4-5 hr run, so double it and should still get her there by nightfall.

Her ultimate destination in North Georgia mountains where a friend has a cabin. She has a little Fiesta car and it has about a 400 mile range, more on the back roads dependent on idle time too of course. We'll make sure she has a full tank getting out of here.

From Mims, that most likely would have been my route of choice also. We wish your wife safe travels and for your safety.

After making sure my son got out of San Juan, I worried about two of my brothers who live in Florida. One lives in North Palm Beach, he thought about getting out Wednesday with his wife and two sons and staying with us for a few days, but he decided to stay after being offered to hunker down in a friends 6th floor condo with the steel shutters in place. Hope they stay safe. My other brother is in Seminole near the Glades. They left out Wednesday afternoon and are staying near Chattanooga.

I hope all of you make it through this with minimal problems.. I have friends who work on the traveling power crews. They're already en route to Florida. Not even waiting on the storm to hit. Just saw a blurb on the news about the presence of more than 20 construction cranes in downtown Miami. They're telling the people who live around them to get the heck out of the way.

We're in Largo, just south of Clearwater, on the water. My main worry is when the storm passes north of us and the wind starts blowing from the west. I can stand about 6' storm surge before water in the house. I'm putting two motorcycles inside Minty and three on a trailer and plan to keep them in the garage and hope for the best. My little house has super small windows facing east so I should be able to stand most of the storm but the side facing west is 24' of sliding glass doors, not hurricane proof. For years I've been complaining about the large houses going in across the canal but now I'm hoping they become a huge wind break and save my glass doors. If they do I'll stop bitchin about 'em. LOL 8' storm surge will have salt water lapping at minty's floorboards. I reserved a hotel room last week and took care to pick a place on a hill and with lots of wind protection. If nothing else, this will be interesting.

Best of luck to you, that's a tough situation. Now that the track has shifted west, you'll be in the thick of it. My cousin lives in the Tampa/Clearwater area and is sheltering in place also, altho he's not a motorhead so doesn't have the garage treasures like most of us.

She did good on the backroads. The traffic flowed, albeit slow in spots. She called me after making the mistake of getting on the interstate after Lake City and it was a parking lot. Multiple accidents, broken down vehicles making it worse. She was able to finally get back off and on US41 again and made it to Perry, GA @ 10pm last night making it a 13 hr run up for what normally would be 5.

When she was still on SR100 coming into Starke, she saw 7 prisoner buses escorted with heavy FHP presence. Our thought was that they are moving prisoners from more at risk facilities farther south. For those that don't know, Starke is the major prison in Florida and where the state carries out executions.

I have a very little bit more to do and I'm done. Good luck to everyone!

Good luck, Denny, over there on the dirty side of the storm. We are right in the currently projected path, north of Tampa. Just now starting to feel the first light winds at 10:00. We are high and dry but the coastal area here is in for some problems with storm surge.

I find this projected path by NOAA interesting. Of course, it will change.
