Ordering New F350 Platinum Questions

Hey all.

So it seems I am in the market for an upgraded truck. Currently have a 2017 Raptor that I love...but after blowing out the steering rack and using a f250 W/ 6.7 for our weekend trip to DC towing our 30' 7500lb Travel Trailer I am pushing the limits of the raptor and its a pain to tow with. Have to put in my tow pump stops so the rear doesn't sag ridiculously etc hitching takes about an hour its just cumbersome. So anyways looking to order a 18 F350 SRW Platinum with the 6.7 and the 11,400 GVWR. I want to optimize this purchase for any future upgrades to trailers and give the most flexibility with towing without going to a DRW.

Looking for some clarification on towing info, truck will come with the 3.55 in a 160" wheelbase sets towing at 15,000 conventional and 20,600 5th/Goose (But I see this is lowered to 18,000 for 5th wheel because of the hitch which I am confused on. Can't I just get a 20K 5th hitch installed if I needed to?

The max trailer I would ever consider would be a 5th toy haulver with a 20K GVWR does this mean I would need a DRW truck to tow something that size?

Other than that just waiting for 18 order banks to open, I get AZ pricing to time of year or month is irrelevant, not much in rebates on a SD anyways. I think 3K right now so maybe 1-2K on an 18 if I wait till winter as long as I have it by spring.

Thanks

I really liked the more sporty look of the SRW, but because of my towing weight, I went with the DRW. For me, the F350 with the 3.55 is purrfect, wouldn't want it any taller or shorter geared for my 45ft, 21K lb Toy Hauler. It tows like a dream machine, no wiggle, giggle or sway whatsever~ just smooth! ...using Reese 25K Ultra 5th wheel hitch w/ Air Ride 6000 suspension add-on.

I soon will be jealous of you '18 guys however! Good luck and enjoy when you get 'er!

Any idea why Ford dresses the 5th wheel on the towing guide PDF then?

Thanks. Here's to hoping they add stop/go adaptive cruise like they did to the 150 line.

the 5th wheel hitch they offer is only rated for 18,000 look in the options for 5th wheel hitch. not all hitches are rated the for same weight

The hitch thing is just marketing. They market the 18k hitch for the SRW trucks. Just run a higher rated hitch and you have the goose 20,6k rating. I run the Curt Q25 but the Reese Elite (same as Ford prep) comes in 25k and 27.5k too. The B&W is great but underrated for my 21k GVWR RV. It would be a fine fit for you if you stay with an RV 20k GVWR or lower though and would be the way I'd go in that situation.

You absolutely don't need a DRW for heavy 5vers. I'm at the top of all my ratings with a short bed SRW and it tows my 21k GVWR toy hauler flawlessly. Stable and like an arrow. Now, I'm not knocking DRWs and thing they are amazing towing machines. I just wouldn't want one for the other 50 weeks out of the year. My short bed is already an ark.

One question for you... why the 11.4k GVWR? If you're looking for a de-rate for registration purposes, I get that. I just wanted to make sure that you knew that the 10k and 11.4k GVWR packages were de-rates and not upgrades. The standard GVWR of a SRW 350 is 11.5k but lots of folks miss that when doing the build and price.

Thanks for the info, yeah did not know the 11.4K was a de-rate I assumed you had to pick one of the two options (not sure why). Its not listed anywhere but I did see 11.5K on a window sticker just wasn't sure where it was optioned. Good to know it comes standard.
