Don't have any stories to tell about helpless animal suffering or death. Have quite a few about the dogs and cats my wife and I have rescued or how we donate and help out at the local animal shelter.

Most current rescue is an 8 oz calico kitten, Callie Sue, we found crawling on the entrance ramp to the interstate just outside of Nashville. I blocked 18-wheeler traffic to jump out and get her. She currently resides with us.

The moral to the OP's story: Should have bought a diesel - rat would probably smell it and not cohabitate

 

Nah, animals have a niche for getting back home. They know they may not make it back home if they ride in a diesel.
