Don't have any stories to tell about helpless animal suffering or death. Have quite a few about the dogs and cats my wife and I have rescued or how we donate and help out at the local animal shelter.
Most current rescue is an 8 oz calico kitten, Callie Sue, we found crawling on the entrance ramp to the interstate just outside of Nashville. I blocked 18-wheeler traffic to jump out and get her. She currently resides with us.
