My wife has a 98 ranger and the Check Engine Light came on about a month ago. My wife went to get it inspected last week and it failed due to code p0122- TP sensor circuit low.
I replaced the sensor, reset the ecu by unplugging the battery for 30 minutes. I then drove 30 miles and it came back. Any ideas?
First you have to make sure it's the same code that you are getting. You don't want to be chasing ghosts.
Ford has this to say about code P0122:
"The TP sensor circuit is monitored by the PCM for a low TP rotation angle (or voltage) input through the comprehensive component monitor (CCM). If during key ON engine OFF or key ON engine running the TP rotation angle (or voltage) changes below a minimum calibrated limit, the test fails."
Posible Causes:
-TP sensor not seated properly
-TP circuit open to PCM
- VREF open to TP sensor
- TP circuit short to GND
- Damaged TP sensor
- Damaged PCM
