Bought a new rig, an 89 with a 7.3 and an old Jasper E4OD. Often but not always it will hang in 2nd longer then I think it should and the RPMs will climb about 500RPM between the 2-3 shift when it does shift.
My intention is two fold first to keep servicing it, the fluid is dark but not burnt smelling. I'm changing out a couple quarts at a time, so far I think it's helping. Secondly and probably more important to install a Baumann/US Shift controller.
Last though I'm curious about remote spin on filters?
