I have a 2006 Ford E 350, 6.0 diesel and find that this same engine in an F-350 pickup is 325 horsepower and in my van it's detuned to 235 horsepower. I understand thus is done due to heat issues but am trying to find out what was done to de tune it. It runs great, don't want to make any more horsepower but I am unable to find anyone that can give me an answer. Does anyone know what was done?, thanks, Tom
My understanding is that it's all done in the management. We've got an International 4200 with the VT365 at work which is what Ford calls the 6.0L Power stroke. I was told by a mechanic that the engines are virtually identical, but most changes were done with engine management.
Mark, I have a 2003, 7.3 Van and assume I also only have somewhere in the 225 HP range. (Can't remember the exact spec.). I hear all sorts of stuff about adding chips...
to increase HP BUT I only can ever remember reading about "If you do it you MUST add a boost sensor and EGT sensor..." Never heard anyone mention I might rip apart the drive line components? Obviously I am asking in relation to some "mild" HP increasing chips for say hauling travel trailers... Not trying to increase to go to the drag races like a lot of people are.
Can you expand upon HP limit increase numbers and drive line components being an issue? DDT
No, I can't. I learned that from a colleague that worked on the diesel vans while I worked on the diesel F-Series. I don't know the numbers, just that some of the parts were not as strong.
