towing a 12 ft trailer this weekend w/ about a thousand pounds of weight on it. do i set tow mode on my tuner or on the gear selector. cant remember which one over-rides the other. thanks
I think I'd use the column button first. One way or another, once it's in tow-haul, you'll feeling the difference in shifting points and downhill shifting if engaged.
To 036's point, it's not much weight to be overly concerned.
What tuner and tune? If you're running something like Innovative's Extreme Race that locks the TC through most/all the gears, I wouldn't tow anything, even minimal weight. I also wouldn't DD a race tune like that in the first place.
Tuner overrides the T/H switch's program, all the switch does is move to whatever shift program the tuner pushed in. Which for most seems to mimic stock, unless you got an aggressive T/H tune with an intentionally different T/H shift schedule.
As long as tuning is not crazy and you drive with a little common sense these trucks Very capable tow vehicles. I tow close to 30k gcvw with mine with a street tune and don't have to use the tow button unless I want to. You will be okay
I'd rent a nice cab-over Kenworth for that kind of tow. Do you have a CDL?
If you're serious, the truck will not notice a 1000 lb trailer is back there. It doesn't matter which you select. Perhaps the question needs to be rephrased?
