A Few Observations and a Question
Got the KR dually home yesterday. Geez that thing is tall. I sure hope it is not too tall for our fifth wheel but I'm concerned it will sit a little nose high. I've ordered the Reese adapter for the puck system which will add another 2" so I think I have a problem.
The radio antenna was a bit tall to fit thru my 7 foot garage door. The truck almost was. I've already ordered a Stubby 3.5" one to replace it. We are long term Sirius XM subscribers so I'm not worried about reception.
My 60 mile all highway trip home with it only got 12.7 mpg. Sure hope that improves.
I was concerned about the turning radius I had read about here but I really think it is better than the GMC we traded. At least it was easier making the sharp turn to get into our garage.
The ride was a little quieter and the bumps not quite so harsh compared to the GMC. I think the sound system is not quite as good as the Bose in the GMC but very adequate for us. Some of the buttons and switch placements are going to take some getting used to. The moon/sun roof is huge but will mostly be unused. Certainly don't need it now but haven't figured out how to turn on the heated steering wheel, my favorite option. I need to start reading the book.
Now for my question. I've pretty well decided on a BakFlip MX4 bed cover as they are very fifth wheel towing friendly. The mud flaps are confusing me though. I'm looking at the Gatorback's but don't know if I need a 19" or 21" and are the extra cost mounting brackets necessary. I've always had them attached directly to the wheel well.

Just touch the Climate button on the dash screen. In the upper left corner of that screen will be a little steering wheel symbol with heat radiating from it. That's how you turn it on/off.
I can't help much with mud flaps. I have the factory Ford flaps for my dually; they are installed without and brackets. Just screwed into the fender area. These flaps are nothing special; they are functional but could be a little longer. Have a small black Ford oval on the bottom of each one. The Gatorback style is much nicer, but much costlier. Those may need a bracket.

Thanks, Shortride and Troverman. I was with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in 67-68 near Xuan Loc.
I just called BakFlip and they have a Labor Day 10% off sale starting Friday but I got it today. Sweet, saved 95 bucks. After a lot of thought on how I use the truck I decided on the Revolver X2. The cover is for the most part never folded back unless we are towing the fifth wheel. I know it will cover the lower part of the back window but can't see out of it with the trailer back there anyway. Plus, I don't have to get in the bed to fold it back. Hope it works. Now for the mud flaps. Not sure what I will do there.

So, I called and they are shipping a hardware pack next day air, I should have it today. We'll see!
Well, I got home today and my package had arrived! I got the truck all set up, got the rails back out, and opened the hardware bag. Looking for the clamps... no clamps! Then I look at the instruction sheet that was in the hardware bag... the hardware kit/instructions are for the hard folding covers like the F1 and G4!
Needless to say, I'm pretty irritated, I called them again and (after waiting on hold for 15 minutes hearing a recording breaking into the music every 10 seconds telling me that my call is important to them) I voiced my opinion on how dissatisfied I was with their quality control, (someone to make sure everything is in the box), they are overnighting the parts again... we'll see...

Hope it works out tomorrow. I love that cover. I am having it installed tomorrow. The place I bought it from offered me free installation. Hope the parts showed up for them.

Go with the longer mudflats, those are the ones to get. Be sure to get the extra brackets. It is especially important to either have the dealer do the instal or do them your pself with warranty approved hardware to avoid body warrenty issues.
This is all because of the aluminum body.
I am now going to the gator backs I had them install cloud rider here as that's all they had for drive home with the new truck but the aluminum brackets keep cracking so I am going to try and get them to do that for me as dealer installed accessory. I am all about being sure I get the warrenty, last truck the install job was done terribly and I ended up having to get new front fenders as a result.
The others have you covered on the other issues. The manual is a long read but you can do it. There are some poorer worded areas, just ask us, chances are we have figured it out.

Got the Revolver X2 yesterday and had it installed in a couple of hours this morning. It really looks great and will function well with our fifth wheel travels.
I was able to hook up to our fifth wheel to see how it fits. I had to lower the hitch to it's lowest setting but still sitting about 4 inches higher in the front than in the rear. Way too much for my comfort. We don't have any trips planned until the end of October when we take the fiver to Elkhart, Indiana to have MorRyde independent suspension system installed. The existing axles are completely removed and their torsion axles are installed with height adjustments to level it to the truck included as part of the deal. I just hope it survives the 800 mile trip.
I also ordered a set of Duraflap mud flaps which is the same ones I used on the GMC. They are well made and looked good, plus a bit cheaper. The mounting holes are predrilled.
After a little more seat time the 350 is definitely quite a bit quieter than the Denali. The turning radius is noticeably tighter. The ride is not just a bit better but a lot better in my opinion. So far I'm happy I made the change. Time will tell.
