so I found a 74 crew cab that I like that was a project for another. It is on a rolling completed frame but body is not bolted nor motor or tranny installed but all comes together. I stopped by my engine guys shop this morning to discuss finishing the assembly of the motor at his shop. I told him about the crew cab and got to talking to his friend about trucks. The next thing I know he tells me that he cut up a super crew with a torch last week cause he had no one that wanted it. ( almost called 911 for murder) Also he has a 79 crew cab and I asked if he would sale it instead of torching it too and he said he might. I drove out to look at it after work and he made me an offer I couldn't pass. So here is the question... which one?? 79 has the 460, automatic, 2x4 drive train, new tires and wheels, with factory air. It needs the carb rebuilt, he has the kit, batteries 2, steering column, and the mufflers welded on. Also has a salvage title. To nice a deal to pass up so I am going to purchase this one. BUT!
I really like the 4x4, but this 2x4 is set up for pulling and lord knows that comes in handy around the farm. So maybe I use my budget money to buy both crew cabs and save up to complete the 4x4 build next year. I could be driving one while building the other. The cost of both trucks would be my total budget amount for build.
I complained to a buddy a few month ago about how hard a time I was having finding a crew cab in this series, and now I am stuck between two of them to choose from. But it's a good problem to have.
There not show room floor kinda trucks but they are solid.
x2, buy both. If the deal is as good as it seems you'll never lose money. My only issue would be what can you do with the salvage title truck, all depends on how your state lets you title or drive it. Or if your just going to use it around the farm.
Buy the 2wd, drive it, love it, keep it nice and slowly build the 4x4 the way you like it. Ever want to sell one? There will be a guy just like you having a hard time finding one that will want to buy it.
If you don't buy both you could also send me a PM with the guys number.. I would love to save it from the crusher or getting cut up.

btw: Super Crew is a 4 door pickup, there was no such thing until the 1990's.
I have pictures of the 74 but it was to dark to take pictures of a black truck at night. He is about to shoot the 79 black and put the new wheels and tires on it so I will stop by later this week to take a few pictures. But here are some of the 74.
