My A/C will blow cold for about 3 min. and then stop for 10 min......then cold again for 3 min.....then warm for 10 min.......what is going on ? It does this when on climate control and on A/C . I had a compressor go out about 1 1/2 yrs. ago due to a fan failing...the compressor tore apart...cost over $2,000 to fix...this is not acting like that though .
Get someone that can read the Ford codes and see if the A/C set a code.
Could be a low or a high pressure cutout kicking it off.
What happens if you shut the engine off during the "not working" period?
If you don't have access to anyone that can read the Ford codes you can also
check it with a A/C gauge set.
I had similar problem awhile back, it was those 2 wires sticking straight up from compressor and snaps on were broken. Can take a pic when sun comes up if you want
btw, whatever thats called, I dunno as I`m no mechanic but thats those 2 wires. When I suddenly stopped blowing cold I would jump out and wiggle the wires and compressor would re-engage and blow cold again. I believe he also put a shim in somewhere. An A/C guru will probaly show up here shortly
I can't even see my compressor......but it sounds like what is going on . I hit a bump in the road and it starts blowing cold again...I'll have to wait til the rain stops and I'll crawl around and try to find it....Thanks......
Clutch field coil is where the wires go.
The shim would also be the clutch. You can check the air gap with
a set of feeler gauges and if it incorrect them you remove the
bolt and change the shims to fall within the air gap range.
This PDF has instructions on how to check and adjust the air gap.
