expys/navis are fast approaching, less than 2 months and dealers are taking orders and putting up videos showing them off. Since its so close, what are you guys and gals favorite/least features or most anticipated feature or option for the vehicle. Maybe its a change to an existing thing on the current expy that you like or dont like. Below are mine:
Fav:
1. 2nd row flexibilty and space, power fold, tilt sliding seats crush the current models sec row seats(the most disappointing aspect of the current car bar interior design)
2. Exterior Looks, all the nods to the previous expys eith the current explorer and f150 design pieces to me make this truck extemely beautiful
3. New safety, expy has always neen one of the safest vehicles and now it retakes that montra
4. Wireless charging
5. Wi fi capability
Least:
1. Interior dash design should be more different than f150
2. No other engine options(2.7l for base and cost effective or 5.0 for traditional buyers)
3. Package layout-too linear and many options arent available without others or on too high a trim...this will most likely change after first my
4. Sync 3 touchscreen and front vehicle sensors not std on a 52k full size vehicle
5. Smaller fuel tanks, 24mpg est on a 28 to 33 gal tanks as on the current model would be amazing, the new ones have 25 to 30 gal tanks, almost 100 missed miles
Honorable Mention-wheel options, not enough choices
I am unable to tell from the ordering guide if the rear side windows open at the back, like my current model. My dog has to have fresh air available on road trips. Mostly I dislike the running boards that extend and retract. You have to open the door and wait for them to pop out to step up and grab the handle on the a-pillar. Also in the north country, the running boards freeze up and burn out the motor trying to extend them. I prefer the older fixed running boards as then offer road debris protection all the time.
Looking at the videos, i do not see the mechanism to open the quarter windows unless its under the glass. On the navi order guide its says the rear is fixed, but the front is power. Dnt kno what that means unless its like current. I honestly like the power running boards for the fact they they are lower and actually are usable for gettin in and out the vehicle. The platforms are set too high. I also like that you can choose their position for them as well so you can prevent the motora from burnin out
I ordered a 2018 yesterday and although there is a lot to like, here is a dislike that I will have to be careful with. Approach angle is the angle between the forward contact edge of the front tires and the lowest portion of the front air dam/spoiler. Normally 4x4 vehicles have a great enough angle that you do not crash the air dam into a curb when parking at an angle to the street. Only time will tell, since I won't see my vehicle until mid or late December, but all the pictures make the new Expeditions look like curb crashers. Oh, and from my previous post, opening rear quarter windows are no longer available.
Wow thats very similar to what i ordered. I ordered a black limited 301 with enhanced parking assist. I optioned up a tahoe with the exact same options and it's actually more expensive. Cant wait till it comes in, also cant wait to drive one when the initial orders make it 2 dealers.
Expy's have had very limited option packages in the past. I'm an XLT kind of guy and have been looking at leftover '17's. The base XLT is pretty stripped, and the 202A package which has a LOAD of stuff is $6755(!) Gets you dual zone climate control and heated/cooled seats but what a pile of money that is. My wife demands the dual zone climate control and heated seats which as separate options would be under a grand, I'd think.
I'm guessing that Ford's logic is that the volume of Expy's sold is not large enough to vary the options much, or even to offer different engines. Dealers tend to have 3 Expy's in stock and 100 F150's.... So they don't want Expy's with random pick and choose option packages in stock.
Looking at used Expy's is easier in the sense that I'm likely to find an XLT with the 202A package and know that it has all the stuff I want (and more)...
The flip-down running boards are definitely an option I do NOT want--I keep vehicles for 10 years and Michigan winters and salt are not good for these things in the long run. And I'm a fan of the smaller 18" wheels with a good rubber height on them. The bigger wheels don't serve any purpose except bling and attracting wheel thieves IMO.
Sounds like an 18 xlt 202 is in your future george lol. It be nice if the options werent so limited amd were more al la carte, but i guess it makes sense for ford to bundle to save building cost since they dnt sell as much anyways.
Although I like the '18 a lot, prices are gonna be too steep for a while I think. And I really need something smaller to park in structures and parallel park downtown. I am waiting for the Bronco which I hope is "just right". I don't need a 3rd row.
There is a really nice new red on black '17 XLT 202A at a local dealer with a lot of rebates, and I can get Ford X plan thru one of my many Ford employee friends, so it's like 11-12 grand off the sticker price...very tempting but I'm trying to hold back the temptation. And the red ain't my favorite on the Expy. I'd actually like plain old Oxford White which you can get on an XLT... Easiest to deal with if you get a panel whacked, cool in the summer, and not bad showing dirt. (My '02 E150 that I had for 13 years was Oxford White.)
Gotta agree. I love my Oxford white Limited. I bought a little can of touch up paint for the inevitable dings. Easy to touch up, unlike the fancier (but beautiful) tri-color white platinum. If I could afford a Platinum I could afford to pay someone to touch it up! But I can't, so I'm loving my Oxford girl. :-)
