went on my first longer road trip since engine rebuild and everything ran fine except the dash gauges Fuel Oil and Temp gauges suddenly started reading Lower than Normal. The next day i started up and gauges all read normal and I did not change anything. Drove the same distance back home and the Gauges remained normal. What would cause the gauges to drop like that? Dash voltage regulator? I did replace that a year ago.Very strange but would like to know what caused that. Any Ideas? Oh its a 73 F 250 with factory Oil temp fuel and Charge gauges.

I tend to agree that the instrument voltage regulator would be my first suspect since it is used for all those gauges, and all of them acted similarly by reading low. It appears to be an intermittent condition which can try one's nerves. The IVR should produce about 5VDC in a pulsating manner. I'd suspect either the IVR itself, or a poor feed to it, or an intermittent slight short somewhere "stealing" some of the 5VDC output.
Another thing that is often overlooked is the vehicle grounding. It can cause a lot of weird problems. Check the braid on the back of the intake manifold where it connects to the body and make sure it is clean and tight.
Ok my fuel gauge and oil gauge are do-in strange things I left for a drive today and my fuel read Full like it should be cuz my tank is Full and oil pressure read high as it should when cold. but when I got to where I was go-in the gauges all read O untill I got ready to leave I restarted it and Gauges read normal untill i started to move and the all went to zero again. But when I got Home I found the gauges to be start-in to read again. I apparently have a loose wire somewhere or a ground. Where would the ground be located inside the dash behind the cluster? I Have ordered a new IVR and a printed circuit board maybe this will help? any Ideas?
This is where the main ground buss goes for everything in the dash. Check it first and clean and tighten it and see if the problem goes away. Then check and make sure the ground strap is intact between the intake manifold and the cab body. Let me know if you need more help. The VR on the instrument cluster hardly ever goes bad.
Where would the ground be located inside the dash behind the cluster?
If I'm remembering correctly, it is integral with the wire connector from the printed circuit. The 1976 wiring diagram calls the ground circuit number 57 and the color is black.
If there are also lamps dimming/not working, check the body ground as previously suggested.

The picture I posted of the Y bracket behind the Instrument Cluster showing the ground screw is point G701 (Bk) This is the ground for the entire dash including the instrument cluster. If you will notice all the Bk (ground) wires terminate into one BK wire and go to this screw.
Body ground from Intake to Cab Body is good and tight I have no dimming of Dash Lights or indicator lights Just gauges. But the Ground on the inside of the dash is one thing I have not checked yet. Will do that this afternoon and see what I see. As of today i had O gauges drive in to work and I just came home for lunch and Nothing O gauges.
All grounds are good and wiring seems good the only weird thing I found is that when you mess with the wiring behind the instrument cluster or push on the IVR the gauges Do different stuff so Replacing the IVR and circuit board I think are in order unless you have any other thoughts.
