on my 69 f-250, i am fixing the steering column and I was wondering, is there suppose to be a seal of some kind between the bottom bearing and the outside? mine was missing and there were about 50 years of dirt in the bearing and the bearing was not turning very well.I got the bearing out and soaked it in tranny fluid now it turns, but it is still rough. does Ford still sell these bearings and seals. it is a 69 ford f-250 manual steering, auto trans. I got a exploded pic of the column and it shows pics but they are confusing.

C3DZ-3517-A .. Upper & Lower Steering Column Bearing / Available from Ford.
so all the dirt from the outside is going to get in the bearing? I got the column all back together the looked down and noticed the dust shield the bolts to the inside firewall I will fix it again tomorrow and i fixed the turn signal switch except the little piece that the horn contact is in. gorilla glue didn't hold maybe super glue.
found out some pieces were missing like the centering bushing. why didn't they just make the center hole on the bottom bearing the same size as the shaft? those little bolts and nuts are a pain, the shift lever is tweaked, where the roll pin goes through is egg shaped and the whole thing is loose. I think I should go to pull and save and buy a whole used one it would be cheaper in the long run after buying all the parts and fixing the column again.
