I've always has trouble checking the auto trans fluid level in all my vehicles. Doesn't matter if they are hot or cold, the fluid always looks like it is above full. My newest is a 03 7.3 psd excursion. I checked it with it running and after I shifted into all gear positions. Would it be OK to measure how much I take out and put back the same amount? Any advise out there?
Also has anyone tried the transmission fluid treatment the Advance Auto Parts sells called Pro-Blend Trans Cool. It claims to increase lubrication and cool the fluid up to 37 degrees and possibly doubling transmission life.
If the level on the dipstick is above FULL HOT mark with the engine running and the tranny hot, then you have too much fluid in the tranny and you need to drain some out.
If you want to help out the tranny, switch to synthetic tranny fluid.
