Hi guys

Hi Guys so tomorrow or this weekend my Dad is selling daily driver which is a 98 accord. I told him if you sell that what are you gonna drive he said Blue (86 Ford F250 4x4) but I thought to myself well compared to his old car it's a bit of a change. I wanted to see what I could try and do to make it a little more reliable.

I wanted to maybe look into a overdrive transmission because it has a C6 in it right now and air conditioning too because we live in Illinois and get humid and hot somedays even if it's a aftermarket unit from vintage air or something like that. My dad is retired now so he doesn't drive far anymore but he does hit the highway sometimes.

The only overdrive automatic suitable for a f250 is the E4OD and it needs a stand alone computer and harness to run it. It's doable but not cheap. Baumann Electronic Controls Home sells the computer and harness and there are a few other companies also.

Does Blue have a gas engine? If so, installing plugs and wires and desludging the throttle body are all good preventative maintenance actions. If Blue has an IDI diesel ditch the fuel/water separator for a Racor or Goldenrod water separator.

I was thinking the AOD trans or is that not an option for the f250? It's a 351w HO.

The factory never put the AOD behind the 351w in a truck. It's not strong enough. It can be beefed up with aftermarket parts, and if you drive it like you have some sense it would probably be ok. But for full blown f250 duties, Ford thought it not stout enough.
