Crossmember question

I'm looking to install a deep aluminum transmission pan on my '76 F350 with a C6. However the crossmember between the front cab mounts that bolts to the radius arm brackets is too close. I had a '79 F150 that had a bit more space between the transmission and the crossmember. It was concave rather than convex if you are looking at a top view of the crossmember.

Is there a specific year this crossmember was changed and is this something that can just be swapped out? Not sure if it is even worth the hassle, but I would really like to be able to put a pan on that has a thick flange to help cure the leaky stock pan and a little more fluid would be nice to help the tranny run cooler when towing.

It is the once labeled 5025 in the picture below, couldn't find the pic from the correct year anywhere.

I've had four C6 transmissions over the years, and the pans have never leaked a drop. Perhaps your pan flanges are bent from being over-tightened? You could drop the pan, change the gasket, get a block of wood and a socket to "reverse-peen" the bolt holes, and put it back together.

For additional cooling, I'd add a trans cooler in front of the radiator. I think it'd be far more effective than a bit more fluid in the pan.

good idea, thanks!

the truck has a tranny cooler, so probably pointless to add the extra fluid.

I didn't even think to fix the pan like that when I dropped it last winter. It was leaking before, thought a new gasket would fix it, but if anything it was worse since I actually followed the torque spec. Probably hosed by a previous owner unfortunately...

Luckily, I bought a mity vac since dropping the pan last time was a serious PITA!

Thanks for the info sir, may still be on the lookout for one eventually. I thought there was a difference, but wasn't sure. I've seen guys be able to fit the deeper pans in there, but when I measured found there is no way that is happening.

Could all be a moot point eventually. I've already got a T19A, a FE flywheel & starter, the equalizer bar/brackets, and the 460 bellhousing. Once this isn't my daily (unfortunate eventuality @ 8mpg), I'll grab the rest of the parts I need and just swap it over and row my own. Having the 4:1 first might make 3.55's instead of the 4.11's much more reasonable. It would be like free HP, then add on a rebuild/deck to fix quench, mild port/polish, new intake/timing gear/headers or more likely a freer flowing manifold back system, probably feel like a whole different truck.
