Tom, Looks great... where did you put your speakers? Please post a pic of you radio behind grill? Did you add a piece of plastic behind the grill to hide the lights from the radio?

Radio position

Moe

Front 5" speakers are in kick panels, rear 9" are behind the seat at outer corners of cab. I have to check my front speakers out, as they might be the wrong ohm value for the radio output. They are tinny sounding at the moment.

Check earlier on in this post for picture of radio mounted behind the grill. I covered the back of the grill with some thin flexible black sheet foam that blanks out the lights of the radio.

Tom, I wasn't sure you hadn't put a faceplate around the radio.

Faceplate

Moe, I tried yesterday to mount the faceplate but there was no room along the mounting bracket. Spare parts.

I am going to look into the front speaker issue today, possibly have the wrong side of the speaker wires grounded.

Hey Tom, Are you talking out speakers being "out of phase" or grounded to truck (not ran to the neg side of the deck)?

Moe.

Yeah , I need to confirm phasing or polarity as my front speakers are not sounding as they should. I'll verify the wiring to ensure negative terminal is correct.

Edit: Speaker wiring proved correct, speakers seem to be shot, they were something I had laying around. Will be sourcing new ones.

Bought new 5 1/4" speakers and installed them today; problems solved.

Radio installed and working

Cruising in town I can enjoy the tunes; highways not so much. My passenger door has always been guilty of emitting road noise. I can live with that, not desperate for tunes, and can listen to my truck talking to me instead.

Only have a month or so before the truck stays in the garage for winter. Truck is too light in the rear to keep it straight on icy roads.

Cool, Tom! The music that the engine makes (most of the time, "BANG" no thanks) is music too... some times it's nice to hear tunes too... Enjoy... It's just getting to our driving weather here in AZ... Need to get mine back on the road!

Cruising weather

Giving serious consideration to spending a little time this winter in AZ. Miss it.

Only downside is giving 30% of my money away as soon as I cross the border.

Supposed to get rain and cooler temperatures this weekend.

Nice job, looks great! I always crack up when someone posts a radio install thread and their truck has a redesigned suspension system, upgraded modern engine, and people go nuts when they cut the dash for a radio...

I like your idea on the radio. I was looking for an original radio that I could get in working order and have not had much luck. I may do something similar to your idea.

Regarding the Heater, I have no heater and have seen several different versions. Would someone know if the 3 door heater in your truck the same one that would have been in my 1950 F-1 ? I am in Colorado and a heater would be nice.
Thanks
