2017 ford xlt
Usually hang out in the older forums and am seeking advice on a new 2017 XLT. Since I own older trucks-85-92,(2009 ford focus) I have been looking to buy a new XLT truck and feel the best time is now ,as the 2018 are coming in. The 2017 XLT is 4x4 (fx4)-3.5lv6 turbo boost 10 speed xmission 20 inch tires with other goodies on it .Suggested MSRP =51010.00 and I have slimmed the price to near 43000 and still bargaining (cash money).Any feed back on your 2017 on buying /owning this year model truck will be appreciated likes dislikes etc .Since I have not kept up with the newer vehicles I appreciate all input Thanks TR PS ( Its hard to let that $$$ go )

The new ones are so radically different from the older generations that it will blow your mind. Take extra time learning about all the features from the salesman. (assuming he/she knows the product)
If you are getting the XLT, is it 302a package? It's worth it. (looks like it by the price) Are you getting the tow package? In my opinion its worth it even if you only do occasional towing. If you want the 4x4 auto (leave it on while driving on road) that only comes in Lariat and above trim lines. You will not get lighted vanity mirrors until you get to Lariat or above. Same for folding outside mirrors. I don't know if that's important to you or if its worth the extra cost. It wasn't for me, I'm in a XLT.
2017 you are getting basically a brand new 3.5 ecoboost that is a complete redesign. The 10 speed trans is going to be around for a long time and looks solid. Hard to beat the 6R80 (6 speed) since its been around so long but the 10 speed is a good design.
If you have someone you know close to your location have them walk you through the truck. I wish someone would have done that for me when I went shopping.
The 2017 models will need shocks on at least the rear, lots of member input on that... the shocks on there are so soft the rear end will jump around on you on bumps. You will need some kind of bed protection, I used a DeeZee mat but I'm cheap.
The truck is like a rolling computer so get used to the idea of it. I agree the Sync 3 system, once you get used to it, will be an indispensable feature. When negotiating the price, once settled tell them you will need a spare key. You get two but they should have to throw in another on their dime.

I think this all depends on the user. Wife's Edge has Sync 3 and my XLT doesn't. Personally, I don't care for all the gizmo's and the display with Sync 3 and the Nav is a PITA to use IMO. I'm also not completely sold on the new 10 speed.

Complete waste of money purchasing the factory wheel well liners from Ford and including them in the financing because the same liners can be purchased on eBay from a Ford dealer for under $150.00 dollars.

I negotiated the wheel well liners and mud flaps at dealer cost when I bought mine, initially tried to get them to throw them in for free. The liners are $106, and the mud flaps $45/set, you might try to get them to throw them in or at cost.

Oh, yes, 36-gallon tank is worth it!
When I got mine, I had 5 requirements: 4x4, 5.0 V8, 302A, center console but not the Sport package so I can have more USB plugs and a nice big storage between two front seats, and the 36-gallon tank. I picked the cheapest I could find.. $51k, $2k off package discount, negotiated another $10k off, and got it all for $39k. New 2016, cannot be happier especially since they took my trade-in for $24k (I bought it for $29k more than four years before). The trade-in had an MSRP of $39k.

Thanks For all the inputs, still debating on a 2017 or now a 2018 .The truck I bargained for is still sitting at that dealer . He came to 42800 out the door .Yes it has the 36 gallon tank and towing-(Must for me)3.5 turbo,18 inch wheels- XLT-White .Be a big step up from my 1985 F150 and 1992 Ford Bronco ,which are staying. The other truck was non towing(2017) XLT - 20 inch wheels. Thanks TR
