1986 Ford Bronco 302 - AC dead - Looking for guidance

Hey Everyone!

I'm a new '86 Ford Bronco 302 owner. I'm generally an OK mechanic, but I've never worked with AC before.

And the AC is non-responsive in my Bronco. Here is the scene:
- The heater/AC controls seem non-responsive
- The voltage to the compressor seems to be bouncing around 1 volt
- The compressor doesn't seem to kick on
- No heater/AC fan noise at all

I have read and reread the AC / heater section in my chilton's book to no avail.

I also haven't been able to find a decent AC wiring diagram for that year/make/model.

I'm hoping that some of you can give me some tips with where to start!

Thanks a bunch!
Bob

Bob , Congrads on your new bronco , Ac being a different beast to work on Haynes and Chiltons offers separate AC books . My Ford f150(1985) had the original hoses with myself replacing the compressors a few times over 30 yrs. . Fed up with the system and working on it now and again(leaks etc>>>, I went to rock auto, replaced the compressor -hoses evap, etc .I borrowed a evac. pump and Haynes AC book from a friend and did this myself .It has held up for the past 5 years with the output cold. Humidity here is terrible and this ac works great. I am no mechanic but I can follow directions Good luck -TR

^ what Black Ford XLT said. Some people think A/C is some sort of black magic!

I try to keep it simple in my head. It's a pump. If you get a gauge set and good instructions, you'll do good.

Also, I use a bucket of warm (not hot) water to help empty the 12 ounce containers.

Put in the correct amount and type of oil and the correct amount of refrigerant and keep an eye on the pressures.

And an evac. pump.

Oh, and welcome!

check the vacuum hoses first. make sure your getting vacuum inside to the controls. check the pressures with a set of gauges. its a accumulator system meaning if it doesn't have Freon or its low it wont come on.
