I've heard of electronic shift kits and tranny mounted shift kits for my 92 F-150 (5.0 engine and E40D tranny). Which one works better and rough prices. If they increase line pressure does this affect transmission life?? Thanks.
First yes the increased line pressure makes the tranny last longer because there is less slippage. Try checking out www.bankspower.com for your tranny chip. Also your shifts will be alot firmer so if you really dig smooth shiftin maybe this isn't for you.
I just installed one myself about a month ago, and I love it. Its a B&M shift improver kit for the E4OD it has two modes to chose from rv/heavy duty and street/strip but you can only pick one, and you have to stick with it once its in place I chose the rv/heavy duty. I picked it up from www.carparts.com I think it was $29.00. It involves taking out the valve bodies and replacing the springs it is pretty easy if you have mechanical ability, and some other minor reworking.
I don’t think the electronic shift plus will work as good, but it is easy to hook up. The price of an electronic shift plus is about the same $30 or so.
The shifts are firmer and it goes into gear harder than normal, but it does make your transmission last longer.

My shifts are fairly firm for 1-2 and 3-4 (overdrive). Only the 2-3 shift is soft. With a shift kit will all my shifts be firmer or just the ones that are soft??
There have been several posts here about the B&M electronic shift improvers being very bad news. They apparently have a tendency turn burn themselves up and take out the truck's computer on the way. If you are going to go with a shift kit, go with the "hardware in the tranny" type, not the electronic ones.
