Hi i Have a 94 f-250 with a 300. I had some problems with the injectors and all that stuff so i just removed them and put a carb on it. the truck run wells but later, i just started my truck and ran for 20 sec and it just shuts down. I opened the hood and the two batteries cables were melted. I can't figure what caused this
I also putted a low pressure electric fuel pump instead of the high the pressure one for the injectors. I've connected the positive cable on the positive battery cable and the negative on the frame and I have a switch to turn it on-off.
I would suggest carefully looking over ground wires, pull on them a bit to make sure they are still snug on both ends. I had one internally rot out basically hanging on by a few threads ... and I was actually running on the secondary small strap cab to engine I believe. Grounds are rather important for the reasons you stated .....
