Have this occur several times, where I walk up to the truck and pull on the handle to open the the door and the door starts to open a little but then the lock engages. Now the open is about 1/4" but in order to open the door I have the unlock the door using the key fob. Does this happen to others, how do you prevent it?
Questions:
Do these truck have auto lock / unlock where you walk away and the truck locks and when you get close it auto unlocks?
Also I don't fully understand the soft black button on the drivers door handle.
No they don't auto lock/unlock when you walk away. The black button locks the door. when you close the door touch the button, it locks the doors, when you get back to the truck, grab the handle it unlocks the doors.

The black button locks the truck. It doesn't unlock the truck. There is another sensor on the inside of the handle that will unlock the truck if you have the fob within a couple of feet. I suspect you are accidentally pressing the black button as you pull the handle, so the truck is re-locking as you try to open it. I say this because it took me a couple of days to get use to the button only locking the truck as I have a Hyundai that the button locks and unlocks the vehicle.
The truck will only auto lock if it is running and you get out of the vehicle and walk away with the fob in your pocket. It will not auto unlock, but if you have the fob in your hand or pocket it will automatically unlock when you grab the handle to open the door.
Yep, you're hitting the lock button (outside black pad) as you open the door. My [dyslexic] bride kept doing the same thing. Those buttons screwed her mind up for a couple of days. I got a good laugh out of her.
