I have a 2000 F250 V10. I noticed a hose dangling from the front wheel the other day. I reconnected the very old hose but noticed there isn't one on the other side (it's missing). The hose goes from the driver's side wheel to the passenger side wheel. Can some one tell me what these connections on the wheel are for?
Those hoses are your vacuum supply for your Pulse Vacuum Hubs. They supply vacuum to engage/disengage the hubs to the axles when 4x4 is selected/deselected with the hub lock in the AUTO position.
Your 4x4 still works fine but you have to get out to lock the hubs in. The dash switch will put the transfer case in 4H but without those lines the hubs won't lock. Before you spend any time or money on this, put a vacuum pump on each hub and see if they hold vacuum. If they don't, then just replacing the lines won't work as it needs to have an airtight seal to engage the hubs.
I watched a youtube video on this yesterday. I guess I really didn't have 4x4 when I switched the switch. I'm not getting the defroster blowing with air on to indicate the auto hubs are not working, but whatever. I've already ordered the hoses for a whopping $1.27. So no loss there if replacing them doesn't work. If they are still not working after replacing the hoses then I'll find someone with a vacuum to test the system.
