Sync 3...is there more?

I was excited about the Sync 3 interface with the internet. Then I found out there are 7 apps. Most of which are music related.

Am I missing something. Come on Ford make something more useable. Like access to an internet browser, weather channel/weather map overlay onto GPS, gas buddy, my calendar from my phone, Colornote, Amazon Alexa, my photos from my phone. Even accessing my phone apps via the sync 3 would be good, but would like more of them.

Also, is there a setting to turn off goggle maps and use the vehicle GPS system?

The weather map radar is available under Sirius TravelLink. It doesn't have motion, but it is somewhat useful.

As far as using the vehicle GPS over the phone map, only way I could make it work was by unplugging the phone.

Ford doesn't build the apps, they build the API (application programming interface) for apps to use to interface with the Sync system. It's up to app developers to make it compatible with Sync.

Just use Android Auto or to a lesser extent CarPlay. They are way ahead of just the plain jane Sync.

I don't know about AA, but there isn't much available for Car Play yet. I'm not completely sold on CarPlay...I wish the temps on the top of the display would still show, and I don't like the way it completely cancels the route in the nav system when you plug in your phone. That makes absolutely no sense.

Yea, CarPlay is complete crap on my wife's SUV. Its just a pain in the *** and doesnt do much. Switched her over to a new Pixel (Android) and she loves AA. You can do a little hack to display any app you want on the Sync screen. Even do screen mirroring so its essentially your phone on an 8" touchscreen. I'm going to try it out this weekend if I have time.

The Garmin Zumo 665 on my motorcycle receives SiriusXM radio and NavWeather, and it does show motion. However, it will only show motion from the time you turn the unit on. It receives a weather map image update every 10 minutes or so, and then those 10-minute "snapshots" are displayed in succession. Gives me a very good indication of when I should stop and don my rain gear ... or just skip it. The new Garmin MC units pull weather data via Bluetooth from one's cell phone.

For some reason my phone won't sync when I plug it in to the USB, very frustrating.

Ugh what? Are you talking about on the Super Duty or another vehicle? You're going to need to post a how-to on this one!

That would be sweet! Then I could use the cheapy Android phone I keep in the truck for Forscan to display my gauges on the Sync screen. Awesome!

I have not been impressed with CarPlay compared to VW's interface or Sync3. Carplay does not give as much search flexibility for finding music on my phone, it handles voice commands worse than sync, and I prefer the Sync display for music. If not for maps there would be no use for Carplay at all. I have not used AA. Hopefully it is more user friendly than Carplay.

Could someone post some screenshots of AA? I've used CarPlay and cannot imagine how you guys think this is an improvement over stock Sync/Nav. No clock / outside temp, no speed limits on maps, harder to use music, etc.
