Stewart- not Jekyl/ Hyde but not realizing that when we did my brother's HPOP we logged in to his account on my phone and I never switched back. I hate posting from a phone as I am definitely not Bill Gates on these things.
Made it ok to the shop with the clamps on the spring. Was for sure a white knuckle ride.
I will post a photo afterwards of the clamps and what the Ex looks like with just new front springs.
The guy told me the spring rating is 2600 per spring.

OEM V codes front springs are rated at 5200lbs per set.
F-450 trucks came with W codes front springs rated at 5600lbs per set, F-550s and other Super Duty pickups with the snow plow prep package came with X codes rated at 6000lbs per set.
Ok. Finally got back from the trip to the cottage from hell. I have attached a photo showing my McGyver job with the two(was three ) C clamps and Vise Grips holding things together for the ride to the shop in North Bay. Once they got the old spring out I could see that it was cracked mostly for some time with the old rust color except for a tiny section(.5 inch ) that was freshly broke. I have also attached a photo showing how the Ex now sits with the new springs. The photo is not the best but I can say that the Ex drives a lot better than before. If the spring rating is 2600/spring I guess this equates into a standard B spring. I would have liked a heavier rating but I am not complaining as it feels A LOT better in the front now. The Ex now measures 25 to 25.25 from center of the hub to the bottom of the fender, about a 2.50 to 2.75" increase. Now I need to install the C springs/4" blocks I purchased a month ago! It looks like I am carrying a real load in the back.
I kept the old springs and was wondering if I could add the shorter one to the bottom of the new fronts for a little more Oomph if need be in the future. Anyone have any thoughts with this idea? I was thinking this if I wanted a bit more lift or if I added a custom bumper later on.
Back to the trip from hell. I finally get to the cottage during which a rain cloud decided to be my newest friend while crossing the lake in the tinny boat. I thought good finally here and I can sit down and relax. That lasted all of 24 hours as my youngest(16 years old) son and his friends thought they would camp on the neighboring island Sat night. They came back with him in tow and he says his stomach is killing him and he is about as green as a lime. I'm thinking appendix. So back across the lake 3 miles in the dark, drive back to North Bay an hour where we get to the hospital and they tell us about 2 cat scans and xrays later that he has a blockage in his small intestine. Luckily they unblock it with air, liquid contrast and an anema so there was no major surgery involved. They keep him overnight to monitor it doesn't reverse and since he is 16 he has to stay in pediatrics with all the other babies. Comical seeing a 6' 180 pound tank in that floor. The only movies they have for him are Dora, Barney, Bob the Builder etc. I go back to the cottage once again where I pick the rest of the clan up and then go back again to North Bay to pick him and my wife up and then head home.
Glad to hear that everyone survived and is healthy again!
Nice looking EX, I love that blue!
It does seem that those are V codes, which are the most popular front replacement springs for our big wagons.
I don't think that you will be able to use the bottom leaf from the factory springs as that leaf has a "military wrap" on the front eye. It fully wraps around the eye bushing over the wrap of the top leaf, so I don't think that will work as an add a leaf in this case.
I added the top overload leaf from my rear B codes to my front X codes for a little extra lift when I did my spring swap. In this picture that shows the standard X codes and my modded version you can just make out where the second leaf wraps around the front eye on top of the top leaf. Attachment 287337
My thought was to possibly chop the end off the spring and just add below. Or, I may see what is left over when I do the C codes if I go the modded route and try and use something leftover from that.
Home is about one hour from Port Huron- just north of London, Ontario Canada. The cottage is located on Lake Temagami, Ontario which is about horizontally even with Sault St Marie.
