2001 7.3 100k miles shift out of first only once you lift off the gas

Hello,

I've seen this topic several times. So I call a local transmission shop to have them look at it. The guy says that more then likely it's the throttle position switch. Is there a test that can be preformed that will help resolve the problem? I really don't want to rebuild the trans as a last resort $$$$

Thanks

You can uses a OBDII blue tooth device and software to check the TPS. Check to see if the movement is linear. Check for dead spots.

Can you test the TPS with Forescan?

The first thing I would do is remove the gas and install diesel.

For your sake I hope it's the TPS.

I'm putting my money down on a failed mechanical diode. That takes a complete trans rebuild to fix. Sorry.

Mark,

Took it to a local shop that rebuilt my friends 4r100 trans. Was told that the transmission was toast. Something told me that it needed a rebuild. $$$

Thanks

Was gonna say, sounds like what mine did February 2006. Failed Diode, Ford replaced the trans twice. Once for the diode and the other time because they didn't put an online filter in to catch metal shavings.

My Transmission did the same thing a couple of weeks ago, it was the diode that failed, and I now have the rebuilt tranny working nicely.
