Just installed the Hutch mod kit from Strictly Diesel yesterday, and at the same time was going to do the harpoon mod. The problem I ran into is that I looked all over town for a pvc cutter and couldn't find one. The specialty tool store was not open on Sunday so I need to check with them before ordering one online, but my question: What jaw size does the tool need to be in order to cut the filler neck hose? It is the larger of the two and need to be sure the tool is at least that big.
The largest I could find online was for 1 3/8 OD and that does not appear big enough for the filler neck.
I want to say the plastic tube was about 1.5", but that was a while ago. I just went to Home Depot and bought the cheapest one I could find that I thought would fit. I am not sure, but I may have had to cut the tube from 2 sides if that makes sense.
I used the PEX pipe cutter I bought at Home Depot, not too large, wide jaws and ratchets. Cuts it like scissors.
Home Depot one is about $13 and will work for quite awhile. Harbor Freight is about $3 and works a few times.
I went the Harbor Freight route and it worked great for the Harpoon mod and for the project after that then it was done. Definitely got my $3 worth out if it.

I had the Home Depot one from installing PEX throughout my entire house 2 years ago, and it's now doing my daughter's home, a little bit at a time.. It's so simple, can't imagine why even HF can't make one to work..
Yes both. If you leave the vent tube long, once the diesel fills past that, the air volume/foam will be forced up past the incoming fuel and/or it may push soild fuel up the vent, either one making a mess and ending your fill.
I cut them both as short as I could. With auto pumps I can use the full speed setting with no issues, on the truck pumps when it gets near full I slow it down as that one does splash when it clicks off at high speed. I've put 39 gals into my 38 gal tank a few times.
As an aside, after completing the Hutch mod I noticed no reduction in engine noise. Interesting that was one of the things many people have said they noticed. I disassembled the mixing chamber and the screens were about 50% plugged, as well as the pickup umbrella being about 20% plugged. I did notice an increase in seat of the pants power, which I presume was because it had been starved for fuel. I'm not concerned with the noise issue, but thought it would quiet down the motor some.
