Transmission?

Hello everyone, while driving I went to speed up and heard a bang. I lost all drive. I have no movement in any gear. I got the truck home and looked around. Trans fluid looked and smelled ok. I couldn't move the rear drive shaft by hand with engine in neutral. I drained the transfer case and that fluid looked fine also. Any recommendations on what it could be or what else to look for. The truck is a 2006 f350 with 6.0 and 185,000 miles. Up to this point I had no trans issues.

Thanks

Welcome to FTE.
Do you have anything to scan for codes with? That would be a good starting place.
You also are going to want to check the pressures in the trans at the test port.

Mark K is the one you really want to read this and help.

Something internally broke.... bad too...

A transmission doesn't just lock up like that.

Also depends on one's definition of "fluid looked and smelled ok"

To add, did you have the back tires OFF the ground when you tried turning the driveshaft? Regardless of the trans, the shafts can't turn with tires on the ground unless the truck moves.

It may depend on what you used to scan for codes if they were read. What are you using?

With the transmission in park does it hold park or will it roll?

Agreed, Mark will confirm this, but take a sample of fluid and drop it on a paper towel, if it turns black you have some clutches that are toast.

Although this sounds like more than a clutch issue

You know when I lost the coast clutch. I "think" there might of been a noise.
But it was dead on the street after that. I got that Ford reman from FICMrepair
and all has been well.

That shows that the transfer case is working and the problem is inside the transmission.
