How are you 16 and own a $30,000+ truck? That doesn't make any sense, unless grocery stores are paying doctor's wages nowadays. My dad said when I was 16, "so son, I'm sure you're ready to drive now, so if you want a vehicle, get a job!" Not that he couldn't have bought me anything I wanted, but he taught me a great lesson, and I've owned my first truck now for 4.5 years, and I couldn't be more proud of it. Female drivers that get brand new first cars are a major problem on the road today. Go sell your truck, invest the money you get and save up for college, and go buy an old '73-'79 F100, and learn how to work on it. Trust me, that'll do you a huge favor. TK

i CANNOT WAIT to get my permit at least! My dad is selling me a 1995 F-150 4x4, reg cab long bed I-6 with 75k miles on it for $5000.
how he got the truck is a long story. he has the nicest truck i have ever seen in my life and he doesn't need a second pickup, so he said what the hell my son can buy it off me.

my dad has plenty of money to buy me a car, but i'm glad he didn't.
i go to a very, VERY wealthy school, where i would guess that 65-80% of the kids there are not paying for their cars. most kids don't pay for insurance either. i think these kids are missing valuable lessons there.
I'm really glad i came across this forum. its good to talk to guys that are older and smarter than most people i talk to. you guys also know tons about the trucks which is awesome.
I'm also glad that there isn't any prejudice for younger members. I see posts that say that the kids drive fast like idiots. this doesn't offend me. you know why? cause we do!
I believe I did say that it is a 99 and that I am now 16, so obviously I did not buy it when it WAS a $30,000+ truck.

Did I say I work in a grocery store? I failed to mention I am a golf caddy at one of the most exclusive privately owned golf clubs in the country and that there is some major $ thrown around there.

My dad said something along the lines of, "We can't afford a third vehicle." We live very comfortably and my parents send me to a private school, but a third vehicle plus insurance is pushing it. I went out and got a great job and proved that I could afford that third vehicle, a very nice one indeed. I have wanted a "big truck" since I can remember and have liked the Superduties the best since they came out in 99. My parents always wanted the best for me so when I wrote out the figures they simply said, "Its your money."

I would think ANY driver with an older car would be more of a problem then ANY driver with a new car. Why a new car?

I bought this truck to last me at least through college (til Im about 23, in 7 years) without falling apart and having huge maintence problems because I am not a mechanic. Also, I love this truck and this is what I've always wanted. And about the money for college, I'm most likely receiving academice scholarships so that wasn't a big concern. If that was a concern I wouldn't have bought any vehicle because I can buy a nice truck for $20,000 and not have any repair bills and have a resale value or spend $5,000, have many repair bills and have no resale value. I do not regret my purchase one bit, it's been loads of hard work but much more fun.
2) Most of the vehicles that Detroit is pumping out now look a like!
3) Exactly how many cars are made now for people that are over 6' tall? Not very danged many.
4) I happen to like older vehicles.....a 1965 F-100, and 1989 Mustang.
I do know that the truck will run circles around most of the factory trucks out there today!
Plus my truck has more of an oooohhh factor than most trucks, with the exception of a Lightning or a highly customized truck.
So, before you go condoning old vehicles, take a minute to think. Not everyone can have everything handed to them, as you obviously have had so much just handed to you. This is a great site, you've just joined. Acting somewhat stuck up is not the way to make nice around here.

Good for you Cowboy, Caddie huh. I did that in high school as well. Money to be made if you know what you are doing. Congrats on the scholarships!
Edit:
HEY Hotrod. Re-read his post. Handed to, usually refers to getting things for free. #1. He said he is working as a caddie to pay for his truck. #2 Scholarships do not come "free" if so you could have had your college paid for as well. They take hard work just like most things in life. Get your facts straight. Oh and it's "condemn" not "condone". Good Day.

1) We live very comfortably and my parents send me to a private school
2) My parents always wanted the best for me
3) I'm most likely receiving academice scholarships so that wasn't a big concern. (this does not mean sewn up!)
4) Maybe you should re-read my post. Where did I say that his truck was HANDED to him? I didnt, since you're such a grammar genius, you're not much of a reading genius.
Re-read yourself, and get a clue. That might help you when you try to figure out something else smart to say. Think and re-read brfore you open your mouth with a smart remark, it may prevent it from coming back and slapping you in the face.
I still want to hear why "ANY driver with an older car would be more of a problem then ANY driver with a new car."
I still want to hear the answer to that one. In a non stuck up way.
