Faded Paint
If the truck was damaged enough to paint the whole thing except the passenger side rear fender, why would anybody stop there. I still think it was detailed and the guy quit midstream.
This is the best way to check for single stage paint.
Do a simple test on an inconspicuous area like the door jamb. Take a microfiber cloth and some light polish, and rub against the (clean) paint. If the color rubs off onto the cloth, then it is single stage. The two stages take a little different process to bring back to life. You need to know before starting.
I agree with you 100% that CC can't fade but do you agree with this below? If so perhaps this explains the pictures he posted. I think so and I still believe the PO quit midstream.
Clear coat finishes are harder and more resistant to oxidation. Although these finishes are also prone to oxidation. Since the clear coat has no color, it can’t fade or lose brightness, but depending on the environment to which the car is exposed, the clear coat can become dull. This fading occurs slowly and you might not perceive any change on a day-to-day basis. Surface contaminants such as acid rain, rain dust, airborne pollutants, bird droppings, bug splatter and industrial fallout can cause clear coat finishes to look faded. This is because as these contaminants accumulate on the surface of the car, the reflective quality of the finish gets reduced. Which in turn causes the gloss to diminish and the paint to look dull.
If he would do the door jamb test we would know for sure. I am no expert but my CC old paint DID look just like his. My previous post I say that I seriously thought my truck was grey when I got it and it turned out to be black. It shined up like his is except for the hood and roof where oxidation pealed the CC. The RED tint paints like his are supposed to be the most prone to turning dull. Bottom line, I don't really know about his as I am going by my own experience and what I read. I do respect your knowledge and opinions Brad. Sandy
Now there was an early 80s RX-7 that was red, and very dull, but not faded. It was in fact a single stage paint too when the buffing process was begun (I suggested by hand, but someone was lazy and wanted to use a tool and zipped right through to primer...).
