Hey guys. I've been noticing a grinding coming from the front end of my 2012 f250 4x4, mostly while turning. It seems like its worse over uneven terrain, bumpy dirt roads, things like that, but I have noticed it on occasion while on seemingly smooth roads. Also a couple times while turning and lightly braking I could feel it interfere with the brakes. They wouldn't grab completely and you could feel the grinding in the pedal. I've been crawling around looking for rub marks or any indication of what might be causing it but until recently I hadn't noticed anything. Today though I found this. I'm guessing bad ball joint or tie rod maybe? Maybe just need alignment? I don't know, what do you guys think?
is the truck in "locked axle mode" if they axle is locked and poor spline lube..your going to hear grinding. check youtube on how to lube your hub selector assy.
also...the pointed out universal joints...some are sealed...some have a jerk to lube them.
The hubs are free. I'll check for a grease zerk on the u joints. The grinding I'm hearing/feeling isn't constant if that matters. It's not even very frequent but it does seem to coincide with turning, although the sharpness doesn't seem to matter, and suspension articulation, with the degree of movement also not seeming to matter. The couple times it felt like it interfered with the brakes the pedal only went down slightly and wouldn't depress anymore. I let off the brakes and pushed again and all was normal.
It feels almost like the hill start assist thing but only for a split second. I'm already moving and at various speeds, anywhere from 10 to about 40 or so.

My 16 occasionally does something similar while making banked turns at 25-45 mph, and where the road is not smooth. I beleive it is either the ABS or Traction control engaging. It has a funny sound and you can feel it a bit in the brake pedal. To confirm, drive the same stretch of road where it normally occurs but this time with Advance Track/Stability Control disabled. I bet the issue will not occur.
Lift the truck off ground... get a steel bar or something... put under wheel... lift wheel and watch for anything moving that shouldn't be moving.
Have someone turn steering... and watch for anything moving... ( Did this once and found out my Ubolts holding springs to axle were loose as hell, wth ? )
