Question for you guys. My back up lights on my 1981 F-150 with 302 and C6 do not come on. I was going to replace the Neutral safety switch but when I got it off I notice it was a two wire connection. The one the parts store sale are a four wire set up. Two questions first what other ford would this had been on and two being that it is a two wire is the back up light switch part of the NSS. Here's a pick of the part number on the connector I can't find anything online.

I usually recommend that people in the LA area buy their parts from Engler Brothers Auto Parts in Santa Monica, because this is best auto parts store for older vehicles.
Ok so I still am wondering the switch on my transmission does it control the back up lights as well because that's he main reason I was going to swap it.
On the two wire switch it only controls the reverse lights. I was able to get one from Napa many years ago, but it may not longer be available.
If it will bolt on you could run the 4 wire switch and only wire up the reverse light side of it.
yes, the backup light switch is mounted to the transmission. It gets its power from the 15A fuse in position #5 (which also powers the Turn Signals). Unplug the connector at the transmission and check to see if you have 12V at the plug. If you have power then jumper across the two terminals in the connector. Then if the lights come on you know the switch is bad, if the backup lights don't come on something else is wrong.

1980/89 truck parts catalog calls it the backup lamp switch.
There is no Neutral Safety Switch (NSS) listed for a 1980/82 C4, C5 or C6.
7A247 is the Ford basic part number for the NSS, 15520 is the Ford basic part number for a backup lamp switch.
EOTZ-15520-B .. Backup Lamp Switch (Motorcraft SW-1579) / Marked with ID number: E0TP-15520-BC / 1980/82 F100/350 & Bronco C6
If your original switch is genuine Ford, it will be marked with an ID number.
If the backup switch works, and the problem is just a corroded connector, you can just cutout the connector and hard wire the connection (I would use a solderless crimp connector covered with heat shrink tubing).

Hello ND,
Don't mean to hijack the OP's thread, but you made a comment that causes me to ask this question.
Do you know what Ford did on a 80-82 with a C4, C5 or C6 since there is no call out for a NSS? Was there a column mounted switch, per the older rigs?
I usually am found of other forums but got talked into helping a friend with a FrankenFord '80 F-150 with a 302 and a C4. Was there a steering column mounted switch, as in the older rigs?
Thanks in advance and I apologize to the OP for the hijack.

The NSS is located on the transmission beginning in 1978 as is the A/T backup lamp switch beginning in 1980.
Only 1981/82 F100/150's with AOD have a NSS. 1980/82 C4/C5/C6 do not have a NSS .. only have a backup lamp switch.
