Ditch the big tires if you want mileage. Your little 302 doesn't have the low end torque to turn 33s with 3.55 gears. As a result, you run in open loop all the time bc engine load is very high.
The engine could be worn out. Start with a leak down test. Does it have any vacuum leaks? Any codes stored?
No you don't understand, those 33" tires are killing both performance and fuel milage and you will do much better on both counts with 4.10 gears. If you did nothing else to the truck a gear change alone would be worth it.
for the past 2 or 3 years i have been running oversize. Mileage has only been completely shot for afew months worth of driving. Granted its probably not helping a lot, but im pretty sure my issue is engine related, and i have no relevant codes. Something petty like park position is all i remember
I dont beIieve i have any more vacuum leaks, i fixed a few a while back.

Then why with 32s did i average about 17-19? I was forced to neglect some maintenance and when i could afford it i did the maintenance. Im convinced its engine, i just cant think of what, its running stupid rich with no faults. Im thinking map sensor fail in range or injectors.
Comparing a '92 model truck to a '03 is not a fair comparison. You know there are no fault codes because the check engine light is not on or because you only retrieved system pass codes? My '89 F-150 4x4 302 M5OD 3.55 (~180Kmi) with the stock tire size gets a steady 14-15 mpg. It struggles pulling the CJ on a full car trailer which is one of the reasons for the engine mods I am still slowly working on. I would guess the mileage is 10 or less.
I dont know numbers now, i will pull again later. I know i took care of a few, one i have is the park position because i have a different shifter so it pissed it off. Will pull codes this afternoon.
172-hego fault lean
213-spout circuit open
332- insufficent egr flow
212- loss of ignition diag monitor spout grounded.
I have bumped the timing a hair after i pulled codes last time. So id imagine the spout stuff is old news from having it unplugged then. I assume hego (from my book) m3ans heated o2 sensor? Strange because it is new. Not even 600 miles on it.

Yes you are correct on HEGO. If it reads lean the pcm dumps fuel in to try to correct it.
Do you have any exhaust leaks or vacuum leaks?
I would test fuel pressure under load. Change fuel filter too.

Hego is the Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor. So even thought the sensor if new it may be faulty. And as mentioned you may have a vacuum leak or exhaust leak or faulty thermatic system that is making the sensor read lean this is why your fuel mileage is in the toilet.
Did you reset the PCM after you replaced the O2 sensor ?
Disconnect the battery turn on head lights let sit for a min or so and then hook the battery back up. It will take a bit of driving to for the system to re-calibrate after wards. Then pull the codes again and see what you have.
172 Specifically is [lack of Oxygen sensor (HEGO) switches ,indicates lean].
Check the harness to make sure it is not damaged. Also if you need the procedure to test the harness/HEGO let me know and I can post it.
I have done fuel filter. And fuel pressure regulator. There could be an exhaust leak. I dont have cats due to michigan rust they rusted off. This was 4 years ago. I will try that reset procedure, i have not tried that way.
