Blinker - One side stays on as solid light

The passenger side blinker(s) stay on as a solid lamp on the front and back lights when the right blinker is engaged.

Drivers side works perfect.

1977 f250 4x4 351m

--Checked the grounds on both back tail light assembly's and cleaned them both. they looked good already but did it anyway just in case

-- Checked the wiring harnesses to ensure proper seating/connection and under hood harnesses

-- Checked the wires underneath for obvious signs of tear or wear

-- checked the bulbs front and back for corrosion.... seemed very clean

What am I missing ???

I'm stumped ????

thanks for the help.....

What does the other side do? Sounds like a weak flasher to me.

I should have stated that...

drivers side blinkers/flashers work perfect.

edit: just noticed I did state that

Oops sorry I missed that! The fact they light up tells me the TS switch works and sends power to them. Is there a chance you have a bulb in upside down? That will wreak all kinds of hell on these systems. Still sounds like a weak flasher though. How new is it?

Dave145 & Rt72,

by weak flasher, are you referring to the "can" under the dashboard?

edit: also, is there just one flasher or two.. I just see the one under the dash behind the parking brake..

the turn signal switch in the steering column was replaced several months ago and a new flasher/wires installed

I turned on the hazard lights, and all the hazards blink including the blinkers on the side that stays solid. The passenger side tail light is substantially weaker in brightness than all the rest of the lights though...

Could there be an issue with the back tail light ?

There are two flasher relays, one for the signals and one for emergency flashers , at least mine has two , find them and swapping them and see what happens . Also run a ground wire to the light that is dimmer but try flasher relays first .

The OE turn signal flasher stops flashing if current is low as warning there is a burnt out bulb.

The emergency light flasher does not have this feature. Also, if you buy a new "heavy duty" flasher at the AP store it does not have the "low current" warning feature either.

You can find the turn signal flasher by sound and touch. Turn on the working turn signal and find the can that is clicking. Replace with a heavy duty flasher will probably get it going again... but not solve root cause. Weak ground, wrong bulb, bulb in backwards or wiring issue are likely causes.

The bulb sockets can go bad too. Test for power at the bulb contacts inside the sockets.

In my experience, when the t/s indicator remains illuminated, it's usually because of a bad bulb. Also could be a bad connection. On the copper truck, the ground lead in the front t/s socket had completely rotted away. Had to swap that one out...

I recently replaced both of my front turn signal sockets due to some similar symptoms. I had a bad/weak ground in my passenger side socket that would cause the light in the dash to stay on. It basically made everything backwards. When the parking lights were on, the dash would have the blinker light on solid, no flashing, but the light outside was off. If you turned on the blinker both the dash light and light outside would flash, but the light would flash very very weakly. I wiggled the ground wire at the socket and it returned to normal, so I just replaced both sockets and called it good. Taught myself to solder in the process.

Maybe you just omitted writing it - remember, the front and rear turn signals are on one circuit - a bad ground at the rear can cause issues in the front and vice versa. Did you check your FRONT grounds? Also, don't just check the ground at the sheet metal end - test your continuity through the socket,
you can have a great grounding point but have bad contacts between the actual ground wire and the contact in the socket, like 75bigblock mentioned.
