Ford 300 mods

I have a pretty worn out 94 300 il-6. I want to tear the ole girl down and build it back up with a goal of about 300 ponies and 350- 500 ft/lbs of torque. I don't want to sacrifice too much reliability and not be to inefficient on fuel though that isn't a huge concern. I considered a old 60s- 70s dump truck exhaust manifold crank piston and rods, Clifford intake, turbocharger, blow thru carb, carb head, slightly larger valves, porting, and a more aggressive cam. But I don't know what numbers that would give me. I'm not even sure my reliability and number goal is even possible lol

You won't make much more then low 200's without some kind of power adder. The head just won't allow enough flow without a lot of work and expensive aftermarket parts. A turbo can be done but you'd really be much better off keeping the stock FI if you do that as blow through carbs are totally "old school".

If you want that much power and torque what you really need to do is step up to a 351 and you can then make 300 HP and 400 ft/lbs of torque very easily. A set of GT40 cast iron heads, a cam, headers, and an intake. Use a mid 90's 5.8L and you can use a roller cam and stay with FI as again carbs are "old school".

Agree with above.........the 300 really responds with so much torque in such a rpm band that it really doesn't need the higher HP to make it work........although with a head swap you can really make them fly...both on the track & street........but IMHO, anywhere in the low to mid 200 HP range is really powerfull especially with the tq increase......

ok, so with a reasonable budget ( around $500 per part max ) what woukd be the best way to increase torque while keeping the peak fairly low in the rpm range? Sorry ive been scrambling around working abd school now so ive been to busy to respond

Longtube headers with a single 2.5" exhaust system.

ok would it affect anything if i put a y pipe in to make false duals solely for the looks. Also what about a aftermarket cam? Any recommendations that may increase hp without altering the torque pattern to much?

I have seen videos of these trucks with a turbo from a GM 6.5 diesel and they really seem to rip. I don't know what hp hey are making, but it's not bad. I never seen anyone do any internal work to these engines, they just seem to take whatever gets thrown at them. That looks like a good place to start anyway. If you turbo it be sure to put some ecoboost badges on it!

I've seen dyno numbers, on this board if I remember right and the efi dual manifolds will flow as good as a header to about 4500 rpm. Better than the hd single manifold.

Seems to me that the heads are very similar to two barrel 351c/400

For cams...check out Iskenderian, Crower or Lunati...... tell em exactly what you have and your vehicle use, they will tell you exactly what to order and they will vary the grind for what you need.
