If they are original it's always best to replace them. They act more like resistors. Even a few hundredths of an ohm resistance will drop the starter voltage noticeably, and the alternator won't like it either.

Yep my thought when he said he was testing on the connection side of the batt and not ON the batt.
Then he said he got 12v at batt but 2v from batt to starter = bad connection!

You can not look at batt cables and tell if they are good or not as saidin the post below.
